Dr.Sujaya Banerjee

Sujaya Banerjee is a post-graduate in Management Studies from the University of Bombay with a specialization in HRD and Personnel Management. She recently completed her PhD in Business Policy & Administration (Performance Management in the Oil & Gas Industry) from the University of Mumbai.

She started her career with Godrej Soaps Ltd and later took a sabbatical for a Rotary International scholarship that took her to Brazil and the US where she had the opportunity to be exposed to the HRD functions of leading organizations such as Nestle, Dupont, Volks Wagon and General Motors. She worked for ADNOC, a joint venture between Shell and British Petroleum as Head of HRD.  She was responsible for setting up the Training and Development function and other HRD initiatives including Performance Management systems and Quality Management Programs. During her 8 years in the Middle East she presented several papers at Conferences and Seminars and at professional forums on the successful implementation of various HR processes and systems in the Oil & Gas industry.

On her return to India she joined Lintas India Pvt. Ltd., a leader in the Media Industry as Sr. Vice-President HRD and Personnel.  During this time she has been responsible for introducing several robust HR initiatives to reinvent the HR function while strategically aligning it to the business. She won the ‘HRD Achiever of the Year’ Award for 2001 and also won the World HRD Congress Award for ‘Organization with Innovative HR Practices’.  Also the Deccan Herald award for ‘Organization that Creates Fun and Joy at Work,’ and the Mid-day award for ‘Creating Fun & Joy at Work’ and the Hindustan Times award for ‘Innovative HR Practices’.

Sujaya was Director HR & Administration at British Gas Exploration & Production India Limited when she got featured in the leading and most successful 40 HR Professionals in Asia (Hot 40 in Asia listing) created by  Human Capital Asia, Singapore. She was also awarded the Business Leadership Award by ITM Business Schools. 

Sujaya is currently Chief Learning Officer with the Essar Group overseeing Learning and Organizational Development for their Group companies- Essar Steel, Essar Oil, Essar Shipping, Essar Construction, Essar Power, Essar Telecom and Aegis the Essar BPO. 

Sujaya is a regular speaker at International Forums and has been speaking and conducting programmes for senior HR professionals in the South East Asia region (Singapore, KL).
