Born to a family trade of silver and gold artisans, was educated in Asmara, Khartoum, and Addis Ababa. He got his BA degree Economics / Accounting at University College f Addis Ababa (UCAA); MSc Accounting, University of Utah; DBA Accounting and Finance, Michigan State University. Taught accounting and auditing courses at College of Business Administration, and later on at Faculty of Business Economics for over 30 years.
He has held senior academic administrative posts at AAU as department head, Dean, V/President, Planning Officer, Director of IDR. His research other than pure accounting and auditing topics, include Historical Perspectives of Accounting and Auditing development in Ethiopia presented at the National Conference on Ethiopian History (IES) April 1990. The Antergnoch in Ethiopia (XII International Conference of Ethiopian Studies, Kyoto Dec. 1997). He has been member and chairman of Social Public Enterprise boards including chairman of Lion International Bank. He has conducted several training programs in Ethiopian Auditor, and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and other public enterprise in Ethiopia.
His father had published the first book on ancient Axum coins in Amharic His father’s collection of Axum coins and first gramophones records of Amharic songs, commissioned by Kekiya pasha, were given to IES in 1974.
Currently he is Professor Emeritus FBE/AAU, and Director of Training MIDROC Ethiopia and Deputy General Manager of METI.
